授業概要   Course Description The focus of this semester’s course is Japanese food culture. We will explore various socio-cultural aspects and historical contexts of Japanese cuisine and food consumption. The topics covered will range from national and regional culinary identity, food practices as they relate to gender, education, and health as well as social issues concerning food safety and security. Being in Tokyo, we’ll also be able to take advantage of our location to connect our academic readings with direct experience in contemporary food culture and participation in cultural activities/events.
到達目標   Class Goals Students in this course will deepen their understanding of Japanese society and food culture through both academic and independent study. Engaging in task-based activities will also promote language and culture learning skills.
