| 授業概要 Course Description |
Education plays a central role in the development of society and holds the key to its future. This is a course for students who wish to study issues related to contemporary Japanese education and society. By taking this course, students will learn about the Japanese education system, policy and practice, and relevant social contexts. Students will examine recent educational reforms and underlying principles and rationales from a comparative and international perspective. They will also analyse some of the current controversies surrounding education in Japan.

By the end of the course, students will have acquired comprehensive knowledge of education in modern Japan and its fundamental principles and characteristics. Students will also have learned how to collect primary and secondary sources to make international comparisons. They will be given the opportunity to explore some key topics related to contemporary educational issues and challenges, with a view to gaining an in-depth understanding of Japanese society.
