授業概要   Course Description 本科目はイギリスのヴィクトリア朝作家エリザベス・ギャスケルの地域色豊かな小説をテキストとして講読し、小説の内容を理解すると同時に、作品分析や批評を行うことで作家が産業革命後の社会問題にどのような解決法を提示していったのかを探求します。　
授業では個人またはグループで作品の一部を担当し、担当箇所の要約や考察の発表を行います。また、中心となる問題についてグループによるディスカッションを行います。
授業は英語で行われますが、適宜日本語で説明します。
到達目標   Class Goals 本科目の到達目標は以下のとおりです。
・読んだテキストの要点や概要を英語で説明することができる。
・テキストの主題や批評内容を英語で論じ合ううことができる。
・小説の主題についての自分の考えを、客観的な資料を用いて論理的に示す英語のエッセイが作成できる。
・イギリスの歴史や社会問題についての知識を習得することができる。
