| 授業概要 Course Description |
We discuss the American culture historically, from Columbus, settlers, Indian wars, Protestants schism, Independence and Union, Immigrants, and to their assimilation to WASP culture in the 20th century. We use several representational texts, which are written, musical, or filmed America often revised.

We analyze American popular culture, especailly films and musics, from the view points of representation. Through those discussions, we hope, we could consider "What is America," American values and its reality, and culture itself as an inter-text. Students are required to write reports at the end of the semester.

We manage classes with group works with 3 students to join the discussion.
Every class students are required to hand in the reaction paper so that they can write the final reports.
We do have 2 reports to make sure of the discussions in classes.
If you miss 5 classes and more, you will fail.
