授業概要   Course Description How to Make a Short Film: Step-by-Step Guide the sequel.
This class continues from the spring course where we explored how to write short film scripts. In the fall term we look at shooting and editing our own short films. The term is divided into three sections the first five weeks focused on pre-production on our script, learning about camera frames and angles, storyboarding, and filming a scene in class with class mates. This provides the foundation for the next three weeks shooting, and the final seven weeks editing and presenting our short films.

Each week has been specially developed to build on the skills and knowledge you’ve obtained from the week before, and to help prepare you to make a short film.
到達目標   Class Goals By the end of the course students will be able to:

Students will watch and discuss film techniques, genres, and film movements. Students will leave the class understanding different elements of short film making.

Apply filmmaking techniques and concepts learnt on the course in a practical way while developing an understanding of the basic skills required to make a film.

Explore, identify and interpret the meaning of camera angles, sound and mise-en-scène using film extracts.

Demonstrate the ability to practice a range of filmmaking skills such as framing a shot, using camera movement and editing a sequence.

Identify the different types of film sound and think about how to apply them to your own work.

Reflect on the particular importance of editing as a fundamental filmmaking element through close-reading of film sequences.

Create a short film, from the initial idea to a finished video through clear step by step script writing processes.

授業に関する注意事項
Remarks for Class
What software or tools do you need?
To take part in the course, you will need something to film with and something to edit on.

Our focus will be on filming with just a smartphone, but using a still camera or camcorder provides you with more creative options. It is also easier to do more ambitious editing on a computer, particularly if you have access to a program like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.

The course requires you to have a video editing program or app. You could use a free program like iMovie, VN or Hitfilm Express. Pro options include Adobe Premiere Pro CC or Final Cut Pro.

Using a tripod, handle/filming case (for a smartphone) or a stabiliser will help you film steady shots. To make the most of natural light you could also use some affordable folding reflectors.

Last but not least, you will need one or two friends or family members who are happy to be filmed!

Because discussions are an important part for the score, attendance will be important.
Manners; cell phone (off), speaking in English (yes), sleeping (no)
