| 授業概要 Course Description |
In this course, students learn about the role of women in the post-WWII Japanese economy, focusing on the Heisei Era. While students will also read about factors that continue to block the advancement of women in corporate Japan, they will also read case studies of women who have overcome barriers and become leaders in various fields, such as business, politics, the Arts, and education.

Remarks for Class |
Students should check manaba regularly, including before the first class, to check for information and resources for the class.
All assignments must be completed ON TIME. Assignments are given so that you can properly prepare for class. If you do not complete assignments, you are unlikely to be fully prepared for class.
All readings, discussions, and written assignments are in English. As this course requires students to read a lot in English, students should schedule enough time to read each week to complete the readings and prepare sufficiently for class.
All students, regardless of their English language levels, must speak in English at all times. Students are expected to participate actively and enthusiastically.
No more than two undocumented/unexcused absences are allowed. Absence of over two classes is grounds for failure. Tardiness of three times equals one absence. Tardiness of more than 15 minutes will be counted as an absence. Coming into the classroom late is disruptive. It is also disrespectful of other students and the instructor. Students are expected to be in their seats and ready to begin class when the bell rings.
Note that this schedule is tentative and therefore subject to change.
