| 授業概要 Course Description |
How does the tourism industry and its businesses and organisations operate, and why is tourism different to other sectors? What opportunities and threats does the tourism sector present to the community and economy at local, regional, national, international and global levels? This course explores different topics related to running a tourism business and the interface between the tourism sector and the wider economy and society.
You will acquire a broad understanding of the tourism industry structure and stakeholders, undertake case studies of tourism related to Japan and New Zealand, go on a field trip to a local tourism-related business, learn data analysis techniques for forecasting tourism indicators using computer software, prepare an English-language resume and practice interviewing for a graduate role in international tourism.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1) explain the key components of managing a tourism organisation
2) summarise the tourism sector structure and stakeholders
3) discuss the opportunities and threats that tourism entails at different geographic levels
4) undertake simple forecasting of tourism indicators to aid decision making
5) apply for graduate roles in international tourism with confidence that they have an appropriate resume and the necessary interviewing skills

The class sessions are conducted entirely in English. The focus is not on learning English but rather on using English. Use of non-English languages is not allowed in class. Don't be afraid to speak in English, it is better to make mistakes than to not speak. Your English is much better than the teacher's Japanese!
For the class meetings to be successful, students must complete the specified preparation tasks in advance.
All facets of tourism will be explored, including some potentially confronting topics. If you have any concerns, please raise them with the lecturer.
