| 授業概要 Course Description |
In this course, students will improve their reading skills. Students will gain a better understanding of the world and their place in it through a variety of real-world readings. Following text readings, students will engage in a range of specific reading skills developmental activities, vocabulary-building tasks and critical thinking exercises before being asked to apply their new skills and understandings in a series of assignments.

Developing students' reading skills is the class's overarching goal. Specific goals include skimming, identifying writing purposes, understanding pronoun references, scanning for details, creating timelines of events, distinguishing facts from speculation, dealing with unfamiliar vocabulary, differentiating between main ideas and supporting details, interpreting infographics, dealing with unfamiliar vocabulary, understanding cause and effect relationships, recognising contrastive relationship, summarizing using Venn diagrams, recognising and understanding synonyms, taking notes using concept maps, understanding claims, making inferences, and understanding a research summary.
