授業概要 Course Description |
This course exposes students to a variety of readings focused on contemporary issues within today’s increasingly globalised economy. Since the lingua franca operating throughout the world is English, successful participation requires reading comprehension - the ability to extract, interpret and use information from English texts. By understanding reading as a complex cognitive activity, students will gain an appreciation of their personal reading strengths and weaknesses thereby providing the opportunity to improve their English reading skills.

Class goals include having motivated students read with purpose and understand the cognitive processes reading involves to improve student reading comprehension skills. This idea focus will develop upper-level cognitive reading processes - discussions will centre around how authors’ ideas are supported and organised to build credibility and reader understanding.
