| 授業概要 Course Description |
This seminar examines the concept of Leadership as expressed through fictional characters. As we read literature, we will analyze the choices characters make (and the ramifications of those choices) to help us identify what the characteristics of a good leader might be, why some leaders succeed and some fail, and in whose eyes success and failure are determined. Non-fiction texts will be introduced to establish context and for the purpose of improving summary and response writing skills.

授業に関する注意事項
Remarks for Class |
Students should check manaba regularly, including before the first class, to check for information and resources for the class.
All students, regardless of their English language levels, must speak in English at all times. Students are expected to participate actively and enthusiastically.
All assignments must be completed ON TIME. Assignments are given so that you can properly prepare for class. If you do not complete assignments, you are unlikely to be fully prepared for class.
Failure to participate actively and enthusiastically in class is grounds for failure. Do not rely on your classmates to carry the class or to cover for you.
No more than two undocumented/unexcused absences are allowed. Absence of over two classes is grounds for failure. Tardiness of three times equals one absence. Tardiness of more than 15 minutes will be counted as an absence. Coming into the classroom late is disruptive. It is also disrespectful of other students and the instructor. Students are expected to be in their seats and ready to begin class when the bell rings.

As this is a seminar, assessment will be largely based on class participation. Students should be able to participate actively and enthusiastically if they are prepared for class. This means that they have completed the readings – more than once if necessary – and have thought carefully and in depth about the discussion topics.
