| 授業概要 Course Description |
Philosophy of law can be sub-divided into (1) general theory of law (analytical jurisprudence), (2) legal methodology (theory of legal reasoning) and (3) legal axiology (theory of justice). This course will focus on (3) and examine modern conceptions of justice, by using Michael J. Sandel's famous book, Justice: What's the Right Thing to Do, as a common basis for further discussion.

The goal of this course is to help students develop their critical thinking skills by considering different conceptions of justice from a philosophical point of view. Students will hone their abilities though a presentation on an assigned chapter of the textbook, discussions with the instructor and other students, response papers, and a final report.
