| 授業概要 Course Description |
海外協定校連携科目群は、本学の海外の協定校と共同で開講される科目で、グローバルな視野とスキルを育成するための取り組みです。渡航留学前後の連携科目としての役割を果たし、留学プログラムへの準備や留学後の英語力・コミュニケーション能力、異文化理解力の向上を目指しています。また、留学機会を得にくい学生もVirtual で英語圏の大学の授業を受けることができます。
この科目はハワイ大学マノア校民族社会学科によって開講される科目です。民族学の視点から、ハワイにおける移民・社会問題に焦点を当て異文化理解について知見を深めます。明学生はオンラインを介してライブ配信型でハワイ大学の授業を履修できる科目です。ハワイ大学の教員から直接講義を受け、ハワイ大学の学生と協働プロジェクトの課題に取り組んだりしながら民族学の知識を深めます。
This introductory course in Ethnic Studies examines historical and contemporary social issues in the United States and Hawai‘i (as part of Oceania). We work from multiple perspectives to arrive at a plural and multicultural understanding of these societies. The course introduces you to core concepts used in the study of race, ethnic, class and gender relations, which will be further examined in the contexts of colonization and migration. We also examine these concepts and processes in the context of Hawai?i, the wider Pacific, Asia and Online to understand why social inequalities persist and how these inequalities are distributed across racial and gender groups. At the same time, we look at these groups’ many struggles for a just society. The course emphasizes the experience of indigenous peoples, particularly of Native Hawaiians, of Pacific Islanders, and of Asian Americans.
This course is recommended for students with a TOEFL score of 480 / GTEC score of 480 or above level.

The course is designed to provide students from various disciplines with insight into the ways in which Ethnic Studies gives us tools to work toward building a better world. Ethnic Studies helps us to understand who we are and where we come from. This introductory course helps that journey of self-discovery for the students. The course challenges you to see the marginalized people not as victims but as people who make history and not as strangers or competitors but as allies, accomplices and above all humans just like you. Simultaneously, it aims to build Academic English skills necessary for studying at overseas universities and provides opportunities to discuss a variety of issues. Completion of this course will help prepare students for future study abroad programs.

▸ハワイ大学の授業をzoom経由ライブ配信で履修します。本学生は現地学生と同じ授業を履修し、ハワイ大学の担当教員の指導を受けます。
▸共通のハワイ大学のLMSを介して教材にアクセスし、課題、ハワイ大学の学生との協働グループ活動に取り組みます。現地学生・現地TAとリアルタイムのコミュニケーションを取りながら、現地の学習環境を体験できます。
▸授業は横浜校舎のPC教室で実施します。白金校舎所属の学生は遠隔での履修も可能です。科目概要サイトから詳細を確認してください。
