授業概要   Course Description This course prepares students to effectively understand and analyze academic texts. It covers a variety of reading strategies, including previewing, scanning, skimming, highlighting, annotating, and summarizing. Students will learn to navigate academic vocabulary and complex sentence structures within diverse materials such as textbooks, articles, and journals. The course promotes critical engagement with texts through individual analysis and group discussions, enhancing students’ ability to evaluate arguments and synthesize information. By the end of the course, students will have gained useful skills needed for doing well in their academic progress.

To complete this course successfully, students must participate actively and attend all sessions. If a student is absent and misses any lecture or assignment, they will be responsible for making up the missed work. Access to a computer is mandatory for this course. Additionally, students are required to have a computer and should familiarize themselves with Google Sheets and Documents.

Evaluation Criteria
• Participation and Performance in Classroom Activities: class participation, regular attendance, and engagement in classroom activities (30%).
• Reading Assignments: two reading tasks, reading logs on a book of one's choice, and book report (30%).
• Academic Vocabulary Building and Quizzes: academic vocabulary building exercises and in-class quizzes (20%).
• Homework: in-class assignments, assigned readings, study plans, and textbook exercises (20%).
