授業概要   Course Description The main questions that will be asked and addressed including:
What and why does the history of East Asia matter where capitalism has reached into all corners of the world and the term ‘globalization’ has become a cliché?
What are the major transformations and lines of continuity in East Asian history?
What factors in the historical development of modern China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan explain changes and continuity?
This course has some basic goals including: 1) To familiarize students with some fundamental concepts of reconciliation, peace, and coexistence in a range of historical contexts; 2) To encourage students the capacity to analyze and interpret historical theories and case studies in the local and global context of East Asia (China, Japan, Korea(s),
and Taiwan) to ensure a transnational perspective; and 3) To help students develop an in-depth understanding of national, regional, and global dimensions in the makings of modern East Asia and interactions by shedding particular lights on human agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and local dynamics in East Asia to think critically about Cold War, national, and economic development narratives.
到達目標   Class Goals This course employs two perspectives to understand the histories of modern Japan in the context of East Asia and globalization from the early 20th century to the present. It examines how modern boundaries, identities, and cultures are shaped in a rapidly emerging modern world order. The course also looks at how individuals respond to and are shaped by the variety of modernity(ies).
