授業概要   Course Description This course is designed for beginner students who can read and write Hiragana, Katakana, and some basic Kanji. It's also required that they have learned the fundamental Japanese vocabulary and grammar for the starter level before.

This course aims to let the students review what they have learned before and become able to use their knowledge in communicating in the Japanese language.
This course also aims to let the students learn more words, Kanji, and grammar for the first half of elementary Japanese, and prepare to start the second half of elementary Japanese after the end of the course.
到達目標   Class Goals After this course, students should become able to express themselves or get information from Japanese people on various daily topics, using the vocabulary and grammar for the first half of elementary Japanese.
They should also become able to read some simple Japanese materials or write short essays using Hiragana, Katakana, and some basic Kanji.

授業に関する注意事項   
Remarks for Class		 Extract from "Intensive Japanese" and "Practical Japanese" Course Rules

1. Be sure to attend the first session, which is orientation.
2. In case of anticipated absence, tardiness, or leaving early, the student should contact the instructor in charge as far in advance as possible and inform him/her of the situation. If prior notification is not possible, contact the instructor, to explain, as soon as possible after the session. Also, when notifying the instructor in charge of an absence, make sure to confirm the class content and assignments that will be missed.
3. In principle, no course credit will be given to a student with absences exceeding 1/3 of the total number of class sessions (21 periods or more) with the exception of situations that qualify as official "excused absences".

7. In principle, students may not take a make-up examination without an acceptable reason. For the mid-term and final examinations, if a student is allowed to take a make-up examination with an acceptable reason, the score earned will be calculated at 80%. In the case of quizzes, no make-up opportunities will be provided.
