| 授業概要 Course Description |
Peace is generally considered a desirable state. However, peace can mean a variety of things, and different understanding and perception of what it means and how to achieve it has resulted in some tragic events of war and conflict in history. This course invites students to think about the challenges of “peace” at the three levels of individual, state, and international system.
We begin by exploring the concepts of peace and the causes of war. We will then examine some of the major issues in peace studies (nonviolence, democratic peace, international law and organizations, just war theory) and think about the questions of peace in Japan, East Asia and beyond.
