授業概要   Course Description This course is designed as an introduction to Japanese culture, with a particular focus on contemporary social issues. We begin the course by providing an overview of historical development of anthropological interests in Japan, and critically examining Nihonjin-ron (theories of Japanese-ness) to provide frameworks for approaching Japanese social problems. We will then discuss specific Japanese social problems such as the family, minorities in Japan, youth problems, popular/sub culture, gender/sexuality, and how to understand virtual relationships in contemporary otaku/oshi-katsu culture.
到達目標   Class Goals Through this course, students will:
- Achieve nuanced understanding of contemporary Japanese society through critically examining the social problems from sociological/ anthropological perspectives
- Develop critical thinking to a certain topic and sustain an original question, reflecting their own experiences.
- Develop the habit of sharing their own knowledge and discussing their opinions
