授業概要 Course Description |
This course will start with some instruction on debating technique, and then continue to debate a series of important issues affecting the world today. The debates will be formal, with 2 speakers on each side and a chairperson. Students will take it in turns to be team members.

The goals of this course are (1) to help students shed their inhibitions and positively express their opinions before their peers; (2) to encourage good practice in gathering data and evalutaing its meaning and relevance to a debating issue; (3) enable students to analyse other people's arguments and assess their strengths and weaknesses.

Every student will be expected to contribute to every debate. The four speeches should be five to ten minutes long, and there will be time between speeches for questioning, commenting and arguing. Please come prepared with some ideas and facts about the theme we will debate.
