| 授業概要 Course Description |
The course examines the development of Southeast Asian (SEA) economy. It illustrates the natural, ethnical, cultural, and historical background of this region that defined the course of economic development. The post-independence development of each SEA country is explained by political economy viewpoint. We discuss some conceptual and theoretical topics of development economics in the country studies.

1. The students are to choose a country and an issue that they got interested in and make presentation in the classroom. This is expected to be done by a group work.
2. Some of the following topics will be also discussed in the country studies.
Topics: developmental authoritarianism, flying geese theory, import substitution industrialization, export-oriented industrialization, ethnisity and development, nationalism, crony capitalism, external debt and financial crisis, land tenancy, green revolution, vent-for-surplus theory, agro-industry, foreign investment, socialist economy, migration, foreign aid, resourc curse, population bonus.
